I used to hate cleaning.
The sink was full of dishes — again.
Crayons scattered across the floor — again.
Another spill to mop up — again.
I’d think, what’s the point of cleaning if the house is going to look like this again in five minutes?

Maybe you’ve felt that way too.
Like you’re drowning in cleaning and never catching up.
And then something changed.
🏡 How a Visit Changed My View of Cleaning
One of my dearest friends came to visit. The entire time she was here she kept saying:
“Your house is so big!”
“Your home is so nice!.”
“Girl, you are so lucky!”
“I can’t wait to have a house like this someday.”
She was living in a tiny two-bedroom apartment with a small space they called a living room. The kitchen was basically part of the hallway — blink and you’d miss it. And the bathroom? Barely enough room to turn around and sit down.
Hearing her talk about my house with so much excitement made me pause.
To her, my 1,600-square-foot home with three bedrooms and a little yard wasn’t small — it was a dream.
That’s when it hit me.
I had been seeing mess, chores, and clutter.
She saw space, comfort, and opportunity.
I realized that the dishes in the sink weren’t just dirty dishes — they were proof we were fed and nourished.
The crayons on the floor weren’t just clutter — they were proof that little feet were running around, filling this house with life.
The spills and crumbs weren’t signs of chaos — they were reminders that God had blessed us with a home full of love and purpose.

✨ Cleaning as a Way to Thank God
Now, I see my home as a blessing from God.
Cleaning my home isn’t just another chore — it’s a way I thank Him every day.
Cleaning my home means cleaning and cleansing my heart too.
Each time I wipe a counter, fold laundry, or sweep the floor, I pray.
I praise HIM.
I reflect on how good God is to us.

Instead of grumbling about cleaning, I use it as a time to worship.
I thank the Lord for this house.
For the safety my babies feel here.
For the electric bill we can pay.
For the hot water that runs at the turn of the faucet.
For the abundance of food in the fridge and pantry.
🧺 My Favorite Cleaning Tools
Cleaning is more enjoyable when it’s simple and even fun.
Here are my favorite tools that make cleaning something I actually look forward to:
- 🧼 My Favorite All-Purpose Cleaner – One bottle I can use for almost everything. I just grab it and go.
- 🧺 My Cleaning Caddy – I keep all my go-to supplies in one basket. I grab it and move from room to room.
- 🧹 My Spin Mop + Mopping Slippers – I actually enjoy mopping now. I slip these on and glide around my kitchen.
- 🌀 My Vacuum – Lightweight and easy to run every day. It keeps crumbs from piling up and overwhelming me.

🧽 Cleaning with Gratitude
When something spills, I smile and think, “It probably needed cleaned anyway.”
The dishes in the sink? Proof we were fed and nourished.
The crayons on the floor? Evidence that little feet are running around, filling this house with life and purpose.

Now, I should probably add — I’m not perfect.
Sometimes another spill makes me want to cry.
Dishes still get annoying.
Sometimes it really is frustrating to put the crayons away… again.
I’m human too.
But having this change in heart has helped me more times than not.
And those frustrated moments? They give me a chance to repent to the Lord for the ugly in my heart.
Cleaning feels like a reset for my soul.
It reminds me to appreciate the life we’re building here.
I get to teach my kids how to clean and work hard.
We take care of what we’ve been given — together.
My house isn’t perfect.
But my perspective about cleaning is different now.
And that has made all the difference.
💌 A Note to My Girls — and to You, Mama
To my girls — I hope one day you look back and remember that mama isn’t just cleaning.
She is praying over you with every dish she washes.
Every floor she mops.
Every toy she picks up.
This home is where we do life together — the mess and the magic.
That is a gift I will never stop thanking God for.
And to every mama reading this — if you feel like you’re drowning in cleaning right now, take a deep breath.
Look around.
That mess is proof that you are doing the holy, hard work of raising a family.
Cleaning isn’t just about a tidy house.
It’s about a grateful heart.
