I’m So Sick of Feeding My Kids Junk — And Myself

Bright, fresh fruits and vegetables arranged on a rustic kitchen counter with the text overlay: ‘I am so sick of feeding my kids junk — and myself

I am so sick of feeding my kids junk — and eating it myself.

Since January, I’ve been part of a Christian Fit Mom community, and oh my goodness… I don’t know if I’m just late to the party or completely ignorant, but I had no clue how corrupt our food industry really is.

We are being filled with preservatives, chemicals, and junk — and somehow, it’s become our normal! I can hardly believe this is what was ever intended for our bodies.

Once food manufacturers figured out how to make food quickly, add preservatives so it would last longer, and sneak sugar into everything to keep us coming back for more, food stopped being about nourishment and fuel for our bodies — and started being all about money and profits.

And now, we barely have to work for our food at all. We just drive down the road, grab something through a window, and eat it on the way home. No thought. No effort. No gratitude.

Then, when we get sick from it, there’s an entire trillion-dollar industry ready to sell us a pill. It’s heartbreaking — because we are so far from the beauty that God already created for us.

He gave us everything we need in His perfect design. Every seed-bearing plant, every nourishing food we could ever need. And the benefits of “God’s food” are incredible:

  • Kale – packed with vitamin K for strong bones and antioxidants to fight disease
  • Meat – full of protein and iron to give us energy and strength
  • Nuts – healthy fats that nourish our brain and keep us full
  • Berries – rich in antioxidants and vitamins that boost our immune system

When we eat what He created, our bodies thrive.

Now, I am not an expert at this — not even close. I’m still learning, still making small swaps in our pantry and fridge, and yes… still fighting the sugar addiction myself. And honestly? I’m still battling the urge to hide the chocolate and sneak into the cupboard once the girls go to bed. 🙈

But this program has opened my eyes.

I’ve learned to appreciate God’s food, His design, and His healing. And in turn, I’ve grown closer to Him. I’ve developed a deeper relationship with the Lord — one where I truly feel His love and find myself asking Him daily to help me be my best self. To serve Him with the body and health He’s given me.

I so wish I could gift this program to every mama I know. It isn’t just changing my life — it’s giving me life by pointing me back to the beauty of the Lord and His creation.

And let me be honest: as mamas, when we give in to the sugar addiction and laziness, we don’t just gain weight — we start to feel bad about ourselves. We stop feeling beautiful for our husbands. And I can’t help but think that’s just another way the enemy sneaks into our lives, stealing our joy and confidence.

But here’s the good news: we can change the game for our children. We get to teach them how to love the foods God made and break the cycle of sugar addiction, stress-eating, and shame. It won’t be perfect, but every small change matters.

A Prayer for Mamas

“Lord, thank You for creating every good thing we need to nourish our bodies. You are so good. Please help me and every mama reading this to crave Your good foods, to break free from sugar addiction, and to teach our children a better way. Give us strength when we’re tired and tempted, and remind us that caring for our bodies is one way we can honor You. Fill our homes with joy, peace, and health. In Jesus’ name, Amen.”
